We were honoured again to be asked to photograph Mel and Jason's family. We have known Mel and Jason for a few years now, just the nicest people you could meet. We photographed Mel and Jason on their wedding day some years back and have since photographed Mel, Jason and their son Joshua in Hockley Woods.
Today it we were to focus on the latest edition to the family baby Scarlet who arrived in August. Scarlet was so dainty she really looked like a little doll.
We stopped photographing families in studio settings some years back now and opted for home and outdoor locations. Simplicity is the key in photographing children and familes. Anything that allows the children to feel safe and unrestricted.
Home is great because they are in their own territory, we find it easier to capture just document families in their own safe home environment. or a park where the children can run around and we capture them having fun. I will be honest, the first option is easier for us as photographers as we are not running around a park or woods trying to capture after the children. Photographing children outside in spring and autumn can be so lovely with all of the colours.
Both options tend be a more natural approach than placing a child on a roll of paper in front of large studio lights. Each to their own.
